Biography
Calvin Fortbrook, Associate Professor of Art, earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Principia College, took professional training at Cleveland Institute of Art, and earned his Master’s Degree in Fine Art at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. He has taught at California Western University where he Chaired the Art Department for 9 years, at United States International University, at San Diego State University, and at San Diego Mesa College. In addition, Cal founded ‘ACCA’, a year-round private studio arts curriculum for serious adult artists in San Diego and taught at the Athenaeum School of the Arts in La Jolla. His exhibitions and awards include: Watercolor USA, Watercolor West, Wichita Centennial, Butler Institute of American Art, a one man exhibit at the Edward Dean Museum, and numerous regional and local exhibits. His work can be found in corporate collections across the United States. As a Fullbright/Hays Scholar, Cal also studied the performing and visual arts of India.
Cal has conducted watercolor workshops in England, France, Italy and throughout the United States. He has also lectured on art, has been a juror for numerous art exhibitions, and has frequently given watercolor demonstrations to art asssociations by invitation.
